Letter Writer Needs Some Deep Breathing

Posted: February 22, 2012

I am sorry Doug Grigg is so distraught at the state of our Republic (“Democrats Have Wrecked the Country,” Feb. 10). I suggest deep breathing exercises.

The economy has been improving — although not as fast as everyone hoped — since President Obama took office. The Democrats certainly didn’t show enough drive, but then trust in Congress has dropped below 20 percent since Republicans took the House.

It’s hard to psychoanalyze the president without details. What precisely hasn’t he taken responsibility for? The dangerous mission to kill Osama bin Laden? Trying to revise the tax code to our benefit? Beginning to relieve teachers from the No Child Left Behind fiasco? Making banks pay for manipulating the bailouts begun by President Bush?

There now. Breathe in. Breathe out. Feel better?

When you say revise the tax code to "our" benefit, who are you referring to?   When you say making banks pay, you surely weren't talking about that miniscule slap on the wrist Obama gave the banks, were you?  Regardless, do you honestly think the banks will pay or will their customers?  Wake up, Georgey Boy.  Those bailouts were needed because President Clinton turned Wall Street into a casino and they promptly rolled a snake eyes.  Remember when gas was $1.80 under Bush?  How is that $3.50 gas working out for you, George?   Did you bother to ask any of the GM bondholders who Obama completely wiped out how they feel about bailouts?  How about the $23.6 billion that Mr. Tim Geithner says the taxpayers lost on GM.  Who got rich shorting GM?  You forgot to mention the $20 million that Mr. Obama just took away from the DC school voucher program so inner city kids can get a shot at a better school.  There will certainly be more than a few children left behind thanks to him, wouldn't you say?  And when you kick millions of people off the "actively looking for work" stats, how could unemployment not look like it is going down?  Wake up, unemployment is still frighteningly high at around 15% and at the rate our economy is growing it would take around 7 years before unemployment comes down to the rates we had before Obama took office.  But please keep your head in the sand, Mr. Wead, no wonder you have no problem beathing easy.

Sorry George, deep breathing won't begin to cure what ails Grigg.

George forgot to list the several TRILLION dollars Obama has added to our debt.  Good acting, George.  By the way, didn't I see you with that Occupy Harrisonburg group the other night as I drove around Court Square? You were standing near Professor Pruet and Professor Berrson.
