Time For Wind, Other Forms Of Power

Posted: February 21, 2012

What’s wrong with wind power? We have mountain tops all over the place. You don’t mind the cell towers up there, so you can cruise the net on your smart phone, yet you whine about rising gas prices. Iran is now threatening to block a major trade route and gas prices are supposed to sky rocket come June.

Uncaring how stupid it would look, I’m about to put solar panels on my car. We have the technology for that, you know. I’d introduce it to Congress, but with the oil companies in their pockets, it’ll never get past the Capitol steps.

I’m at the point that I couldn’t care less if Oscar the Grouch ran for the Republican nomination. He would admit to his garbage-induced environment. I practically don’t care to vote anymore when I see those in other countries who die for the right.

Sorry, Founding Fathers; you gave it a good try.

Well, it's only a matter of time before alternative energy sources become necessary, no matter how much you want to "drill baby drill."

I'd like to see more R&D on wave energy, tidal energy, and ocean thermal energy.  There are a lot of high population centers on our coasts, and these forms of energy would be right there.

It's usually a good idea to check those before posting... :)

Interesting.

To most experts, though, there's a problem with the bird-mortality argument: The vast majority of research shows that wind turbines kill relatively few birds, at least compared with other man-made structures. The statistics are shocking if you consider just how many people are crying out against wind power for the birds' sake:

Man-made structure/technology

Associated bird deaths per year (U.S.)

Feral and domestic cats

Hundreds of millions [source: AWEA]

Power lines

130 million -- 174 million [source: AWEA]

Windows (residential and commercial)

100 million -- 1 billion [source: TreeHugger]

Pesticides

70 million [source: AWEA]

Automobiles

60 million -- 80 million [source: AWEA]

Lighted communication towers

40 million -- 50 million [source: AWEA]

Wind turbines

10,000 -- 40,000 [source: ABC]

Don't listen to these idiots; I'm also worn out with campaign promises, gas prices, and so on.  You'll never please anybody.  Oscar would be just another puppet in the white house anyway.

Cecilia,
How can you possibly support these wind turbine bird killers?  Even as we speak, millions of dead birds are falling to the ground who have been murdered by these wind generators put in place by cruel, heartless capitalists who only care for their own profit and greed.  You have disgraced all noble environmentalists who thought you were concerned about our environment.  You should be ashamed of yourself.

I agree totally that you should no longer bother to vote, Cecilia. But forget about those solar panels on your car.  What would work so much better, would be to get a convertable, put a beanie equipped with a propeller on your head, and utilize the wind.
