Leila E. Lam, 91
Leila Elizabeth "Wink" Huddle Lam, 91, of Elkton, passed away March 3, 2010, at Johnson's Home for the Elderly in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Lam was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Robert Henry and Elizabeth Ann Smith Huddle.
She was a lifetime member of the Furnace United Methodist Church and was also a member of the choir and the Women's Society.
She graduated from Elkton High School in 1937 and worked for Rockingham Co-operative Farm Bureau and retired from Blue Bell/Wrangler after 35 years of teaching ladies to sew. She was a great seamstress and a wonderful cook, even publishing her own cookbook.
"Wink" married Reecy Jacob Lam on Nov. 21, 1940, who preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1972. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family but leaves numerous nieces and nephews, even down to the fourth generation, playing a huge part in their lives. Even though she had no children of her own, she was a mother figure to many. She will be greatly missed. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Bill, Rob, Shack and John Huddle, and a sister, Allie Baugher.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010, at the Furnace United Methodist Church near Elkton on Naked Creek Road. The Revs. Michael Plasters and Nona F. Allen will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the Koontz Family Cemetery in Page County.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
In lieu of flowers, Wink's request for memorial contributions to be made to the Furnace United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Lester Seal, 19241 Seal Lane, Elkton, VA 22827.
