Calvin George Germroth, 86, of Broadway, Va., died July 29, 2010, at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg.

He was born June 7, 1924, in Bethel Park, Pa., and was the son of the late John Conrad and Allma Simmons Germroth.

He graduated from Washington Penn Township High School. He served on the board of directors for Wampler Longacre and Rockingham Poultry. He was a store manager for Southern States and joined Rockingham Poultry, becoming vice president in charge of production at Rockingham Poultry Cooperative. He was president of the Virginia and West Virginia Poultry Associations and president of the Southeastern Poultry Association.

He was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church and a church elder. He was active with the Broadway Presbyterian Food Bank.

On March 30, 1946, he married the former Dorothy Wheeler, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Donna Blaser and husband, Wayne, of Bradenton, Fla.; four sons, Jerry Germroth and wife, Vicky, of Woodstock, Ted Germroth and wife, Debbie, of Kingsport, Tenn., Rick Germroth and wife, Bonnie, of Oak Hill, Va., and Jeff Germroth and wife, Gretchyn, of Broadway; and 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pastors Sarah Hill and Wayne Blaser will conduct a memorial service 4 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Broadway Presbyterian Church.

The body was cremated. Arrangements are by Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

A celebration of life service for Dennis Wayne Knupp, 33, of Harrisonburg, who died July 21, 2010, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at Antioch United Church of Christ, 4107 Fort Lynne Road, Harrisonburg, by the Rev. Richard Vaught.

David Scott Ryan, 53, of Luray, died Thursday, July 29, 2010.

The Rev. Anne Ross will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, where visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at St. Peter's Methodist Cemetery in Elkton.

Mrs. Ethel Hartman Irvine, 88, died Friday morning, July 30, 2010, at the Bridgewater Home, where she had been a resident since 2003.

A daughter of the late John and Maude Mary Root Hartman, she was born on May 10, 1922, in Rockingham County.

She attended Rockingham County Schools and graduated from Port Republic High School. Mrs. Irvine had made her home in the Weyers Cave area prior to moving to the Bridgewater Home. She had worked for ASR for 30 years prior to her retirement in 1985. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Church of Christ at Weyers Cave.

On June 5, 1946, she married Ralph W. Irvine, who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2003.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends may view her body from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Monday in the St. Paul's Cemetery with the Rev. Doyle Payne officiating.

CHESTERFIELD - Anna Blanche (Shue) Atkins, 91, widow of Paul J. Atkins, died Thursday (July 29, 2010) at her home.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Bear Funeral Home in Churchville.  Following the visitation, there will be a procession from the funeral home to Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Churchville, for a graveside service.
